One of the biggest stories of the NBA offseason was Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo saying that he would not sign an extension with the team if he did not feel like they would match his commitment to winning more NBA Championships. Members of the national media started to predict that Giannis would instead sign with a bigger market team.
Even in the wake of the trade that brought Damian Lillard to Milwaukee, some stood firm in their belief that Giannis would not stay with the Bucks.
However, Giannis addressed the Milwaukee media today and revealed his plans on when, not if, he will sign another extension to stay in Milwaukee.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Will Sign an Extension with the Milwaukee Bucks Next Year
As many Bucks fans believed/hoped, it is not a matter of “if” Giannis will sign another extension with Milwaukee, it is a matter of when. The two-time MVP and the franchise’s all-time leading scorer spoke to the media regarding his plans on a new contract:
“Money is not important. A lot of f—ing money is important. So I’m gonna sign it next year. It doesn’t make sense to sign right now. I want to be a Milwaukee Buck for the rest of my career, as long as we are winning”.
For all who questioned whether pulling the trigger on the Lillard trade was enough, it certainly seems like it. It also doesn’t sound like trading Jrue Holiday, who Giannis called “the best person I have ever met,” is going to keep him from seeing that the trade was made to give the team its best chance of winning.
Giannis and the Bucks will begin training camp this week and play their first preseason game at home at Fiserv Forum on Sunday against the Chicago Bulls.

I didn’t believe Dame would land here and felt that the draft process this year and some good FA signings for role players should have convinced him (i.e. I never thought he’d leave and there is no telling how fast the young athletes will develop or thrive playing with Giannis). The Payne signing was excellent as well, as a side note to signing Dame, which really didn’t convince him.
I’m hoping Marjon develops and KM will be moved after the Bucks win their second title in the GIannis era!
