Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo might one day be considered one of the greatest players ever to play the game, but he’s still got a long career ahead of him.
Until then, Giannis cites this NBA Legend as the greatest player to suit up.
Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo cites Lebron James as the NBA’s GOAT.
In an interview with The Athletic’s Joe Vardon, Antetokounmpo outlined why he views Lebron James as the GOAT.
“Some guys might say he is No. 2, but other guys like me I say he is No. 1, and still going,” said Antetokounmpo.
Antetokounmpo not only listed James as the greatest of all time, he views the impact James has had off the basketball court as even greater.
“For 21 years, you never get in trouble, to be able to take in his family, protect this family, raise his kids the right way, you know, be happily married all those things, it’s perfect,” Antetokounmpo said. He’s kind of like setting the blueprint for the rest of us to go forward. That’s what I want. I want to be able to do what I do on the court consistently, be good, be healthy, be available for my team, be able to you know raise my family in a bubble away from what I do on the court for them to have a normal life as much as I can. Stay out of trouble.
“And hopefully one day, you know, when I’m done from the game of basketball… maybe you mention me? I don’t know. But he sets up the blueprint for all athletes that enter the NBA to follow.”
Nothing is surprising about Antetokounmpo’s comments on Monday. Antetokounmpo has had countless battles against Lebron James, and the two stars have brought out the best in each other.
But the Milwaukee Bucks forward cites the impact Lebron has had off the basketball court as something that shouldn’t be overlooked, and he’s right. Lebron jumped straight from high school to the NBA, and not only did he never get in trouble, but he’s carried the entire league for the bulk of his career and has been a grand ambassador to the NBA.
Giannis and Lebron have similarities in that they both strive to be positive role models for their kids. By all accounts, both have set a great example for their kids; both have found that balance between life as world-famous basketball players and trying to give their kids a normal life considering the circumstances.
One day, Giannis Antetokounmpo will be in Lebron’s shoes. He will be the face of the NBA until then; it’ll be Lebron’s league until further notice.
