Even though the Milwaukee Bucks are currently second in the Eastern Conference, just behind the Boston Celtics, there are still some instances when they surprisingly fall. One such example was last January 8 when the Utah Jazz defeated the team with a score of 132-116.
For his part, Giannis Antetokounmpo played like an MVP that night by posting 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists in 38 minutes on the court. But even with those monster stats, the Greek Freak wasn’t effective at all because of the five fouls and four turnovers he committed that night, even going as far as saying the Bucks need to be better defensively.
While that kind of production should have been enough, the absence of Damian Lillard during the said match for personal reasons caused the Bucks to struggle against Utah. In the end, the Bucks lost by 16 at home.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo Shares Touching Anecdote About Teammate Damian Lillard
A couple of days later, Dame Time made his way back to the lineup. This led Antetokounmpo to tell reporters how much he missed the All-Star point guard.
“When he went home to take care of business, we played against Utah, and we lost by 30,” Antetokounmpo said. “Actually, we didn’t lose by 30; we were down by 30 in the first half. So it’s a no-brainer. When he came back, I ran to him, (gave) him a hug and told him don’t ever leave me again. Don’t leave my side again. So it’s simple as that, man. … We need him to be great in order for this team to be great,” Antetokounmpo said.
And great Lillard was in his return match against the Detroit Pistons last Saturday night when he helped Milwaukee get the 141-135 win over Motor City. In that contest, the point guard posted 46 points, 6 rebounds, and 11 assists. Even though Antetokounmpo felt a little winded, he managed to add 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists that night.
The Milwaukee Bucks need Antetokounmpo and Lillard to be at their best with their synergy on the court if they ever hope to win another ring. And with the playoffs looming over the horizon, fans will have to see how the All-Star duo will perform on the biggest stage of them all.
