The Milwaukee Bucks have been doing everything they can to keep cornerstone superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo happy over the past several years. This includes having two of his brothers on the roster despite either of them not really playing a significant role on the team.
As of the moment, however, the Antetokounmpo trio has now dwindled to a duo after the Bucks decided to release 22-year-old Alex Antetokounmpo from the roster.
Milwaukee Bucks Part Ways With Alex Antetokounmpo
Technically speaking, Alex has not been on the Bucks roster this season. He’s spent most of his time with Milwaukee’s NBA G League Affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd, where he’s played 16 games this year. During that stretch, the 6-foot-8 forward was able to put up averages of 6.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
On February 14, however, the Herd decided to buy out Alex’s contract (h/t Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel). The youngest Antetokounmpo brother is now reportedly headed back to Europe where he is signing with M Basket-Delamode in Lithuania.
Alex will now be following in the footsteps of older brother Kostas, who currently plies his trade with Panathinaikos in Greece. Giannis and Thanasis Antetokounmpo, of course, will remain in America with the Bucks.
At 22, though, Alex still has a considerable shot at making it to the NBA somewhere down the road. For now, he will need to hone his skills in the Lithuanian Basketball League.
