All the momentum the Milwaukee Bucks had built up throughout their recent six-game winning streak got thrown out the window on Wednesday night. This was after they suffered an embarrassing 125-90 loss at the hands of Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.
This was the most points the Bucks have allowed since Doc Rivers took over the helm, which is a clear testament to how Milwaukee’s defense just wasn’t up to par on Wednesday night. According to Rivers, though, it wasn’t their poor defense that led to the stunning blowout.
Doc Rivers Calls Out Milwaukee Bucks’ Offensive Effort Vs. Warriors
Doc Rivers isn’t commending his team’s defensive performance against Golden State. Not one bit. After all, the Bucks did give up 78 points in the first half alone.
However, what Coach Doc is pointing out here is that ultimately, it was his team’s lack of efficiency on the offensive end that led to their downfall:
“I know this is gonna sound like a shock to you: I really didn’t think this was our defense,” Rivers saidf, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “I thought it was our offense. I didn’t think we played solid offense all night.”
The story for the Bucks this season is that their lackluster defense leads to problems on the offensive end. According to Rivers, it was the other way around against the Dubs:
“They have 21 points off of our turnovers. They have 15 blocked shots,” he continued. “They were in transition or in early offense the whole game due to our bad offense tonight. This is the first night in a long time where we just didn’t play together, didn’t move the ball. We forced actions. I thought it was more of that. We had a lot of defensive breakdowns, for sure, but a lot of them were in transition when we weren’t matched up because our floor balance was so bad tonight.”
The Bucks will need to dust themselves off quickly with another marquee matchup coming up on Friday. This time around, they travel to Hollywood to face off against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. That should be a good one.
