After Adrian Griffin’s firing and taking over from Joe Prunty, Doc Rivers saw the Milwaukee Bucks go on a 1-5 skid with him as the head coach. Fortunately, he sees a silver lining ahead, especially with Patrick Beverley on the team.
Recently acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers for Cameron Payne and a 2027 second-round pick, Beverley’s addition is projected to help Milwaukee on the defensive end of the court. This move will cover the defensive deficiencies of Damian Lillard and provide the Bucks with a capable guard to run plays from the bench.
As seen in the Bucks’ most recent win against the Charlotte Hornets, Beverley has brought his knack for defense over to the Bucks. In almost 12 minutes on the court, the 6’2″ guard posted six points and four assists.
But more than the numbers, Beverley brings something intangible to the Bucks’ roster. And after years of playing for Rivers, Milwaukee’s head coach clearly appreciates that one quality he contributes to the team.
Doc Rivers Shares Why Patrick Beverley Talking a Lot is Good for the Milwaukee Bucks
Before the game, Rivers shares what makes him happy about Beverley’s addition to the Bucks. In an article written by Eric Nehm for The Athletic:
“He’s competitive. That word can’t be used enough,” Rivers said of Beverley before Friday’s game. “He talks a lot. Talks a lot on defense. Talks a lot to the opponent. Talks a lot on his podcast. He talks a lot. And a lot of that is good for us.”
After the Bucks traded Jrue Holiday for Damian Lillard during the offseason, the team’s defense fell off. To make things worse, the former found himself playing for the Boston Celtics now, Milwaukee’s strongest rival in the Eastern Conference.
The acquisition of Beverley from the Sixers did not just the team’s defense. He also delivers a much-needed sense of grit to the Bucks, one that’s going be very helpful for Milwaukee to finish the regular season strong.
