Sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that the Milwaukee Bucks are bringing back Darvin Ham to the franchise to be the top assistant to head coach Doc Rivers. This is a very fascinating move for both parties.
Rivers got rid of other assistant coaches after the first-round loss against the Indiana Pacers. Ham was with the Los Angeles Lakers for the last two seasons and was let go. Darvin Ham with Los Angeles had a 90-74 record for the past two seasons.

He was the seventh seed in both seasons with the Lakers in the Western Conference. Ham had a 9-12 record in the postseason with Los Angeles over the two years. He went to the Western Conference in 2023 and was swept against the Denver Nuggets. In 2024, they lost to Denver again in the first round in five games played.
Darvin Ham was with the Milwaukee Bucks in the past from 2018-2022 as an assistant head coach. Ham won an NBA title with the Bucks in 2020-2021. The head coach of that team was Mike Budenholzer. With him returning to the organization, this may help them out in the long run.
NBA Fans React To the Milwaukee Bucks-Darvin Ham News

There was a chance that Ham was going to find another heading coach job in the NBA, but that didn’t turn out to be the case. NBA fans responded to the news of the Bucks bringing back Ham to the organization on Twitter:
A coaching staff of Doc Rivers and Darvin Ham will starve families for years 😭

There seems to be a lot of laughter about the Bucks hiring Ham across the NBA fanbase on Twitter. Let’s be real about this: Ham was not a bad head coach in the NBA and got a raw deal with the Los Angeles Lakers after just two seasons.

He is a very good assistant head coach who helped Khris Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo. There are also running jokes about Doc Rivers not getting it done as of late in the playoffs which is also true. However, fans across the league should not be laughing about this hire by the Bucks because Ham is a very good assistant head coach.
