Before Damian Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, the Miami Heat were the clear frontrunners to land the seven-time All-Star. Negotiations did not go well with the Portland Trail Blazers, though, and one of the reasons behind the same was Portland’s unwillingness to take Tyler Herro as part of Miami’s trade package.
For his part, Herro currently remains in South Beach despite the fact that the Heat clearly did all they could to trade him this past offseason.
Tyler Herro on Relationship with Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard
Speaking ahead of Miami’s upcoming matchup against the Bucks on Monday night, Herro was asked about his relationship with Dame. According to the Heat shooting guard, however, he never had a conversation with Lillarrd throughout their respective drama-filled offseasons:
“I’ve never spoken to him,” Herro said, via Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. “I probably won’t [talk to him on Monday]. We’ll see what happens. I respect his game, for sure. There’s no hate toward him at all. He’s a great player. I’ve been watching him my whole life. So I’m excited to continue to compete against the best.”
Herro obviously has nothing but respect from Lillard, and there’s clearly no animosity between these two stars. Nevertheless, there’s no denying that Herro would love to take advantage of the opportunity he has to go up against Dame on Monday.
Tyler Herro on Bucks’ Giannis-Dame Pairing
Being a Milwaukee native himself, Herro is happy for his hometown now that they’ve paired two of the top superstars in the NBA today on the same roster:
“One thing is to have Giannis. Obviously, he’s a superstar,” Herro said. “And then having another superstar like Dame. Milwaukee is a small city that loves basketball. So any time the Bucks are winning and have a talented roster like that is always good for the city.”
Be that as it may, you can be sure that Herro’s loyalty to the Heat will prevail over his love for Milwaukee. The former Sixth Man of the Year will have a point to prove on Monday, and it goes without saying that he will do everything he can to make sure that Bucks fans don’t have anything to smile about after their game.
