A lot of eyes are on the Milwaukee Bucks, especially with Doc Rivers assuming the head coaching gig after the front office fired Adrian Griffin. In the process, Damian Lillard has the opportunity to get a bigger role in the coming months because of this change.
In the 11 seasons Lillard played for the Portland Trail Blazers, the All-Star point guard averaged 25.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game. He also connected 43 percent of his shots from the field, 37 percent from beyond the arc, and 89 percent from the free throw line.
In comparison, Lillard is averaging 25.3 points on 42 percent shooting from the field, 34 percent from deep, and 92 percent from the foul line. He also makes 4.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game as the Bucks’ starting point guard.
Needless to say, Lillard’s numbers don’t seem that far off from his time as the Trail Blazers’ number one option. It remains to be seen whether Dame Time can maintain his stats throughout the season as he shared shot creation duties with Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Ric Bucher Hands Out An Interesting Damian Lillard Prediction After Doc Rivers’ Takeover of the Milwaukee Bucks
If NBA analyst Ric Bucher is to be believed, there’s a bright future for Lillard under a Milwaukee Bucks team coached by Doc Rivers.
In a debate with Fox Sports, Bucher reiterates that Rivers is very experienced in handling superstars, such as the duo of Lillard and Antetokounmpo, unlike Griffin during his time with the Bucks. But more than that, Rivers’ past with the Los Angeles Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers bodes well for the Dame.
During his stint with those two teams, Rivers was known to put the ball more in a guard, rather than a big man. This can be seen in recent years when the coach favored James Harden more than Joel Embiid during his time with the 76ers.
“I’m not a big Doc proponent, but he has a lot of experience handling superstar players, something that Griffin obviously did not. I would imagine Doc will do what he did with the Sixers – put the ball in his best guard’s hands (James Harden/Damian Lillard) at the expense of his big man (Joel Embiid/Giannis Antetokounmpo),” Bucher said.
If this prediction comes true, expect Lillard to explode onto the scene and put up crazy numbers down the line. Bucks fans will have to wait and see how the team will perform, especially during their road trip against various Western Conference teams.
