At this point, it’s hard to argue against the notion that the Milwaukee Bucks won the entire offseason after their successful coup on Damian Lillard. At the same time, there’s also no denying that this has been a bittersweet ordeal not only for the team but for its entire fanbase as well. After all, bidding farewell to a guy like Jrue Holiday isn’t easy.
Damian Lillard Speaks Out on Milwaukee Bucks Move
Lillard himself recently spoke out about the nature of his blockbuster trade to Milwaukee, including the fact that the Bucks had to give Holiday up in order to pry him away from the Blazers:
“It just shows belief. It shows a lot of faith in what I can do for the team,” Lillard said, via Marc J. Spears of Andscape. “Obviously, me being brought in for a guy of Jrue Holiday’s caliber, who I have a lot of respect for, they won a championship with Jrue [in 2021] … after a first-round exit [last season], which we’ve all had years where you just run into a matchup, you just lose sometimes.”
Holiday spent just three years in Milwaukee, but in spite of his brief tenure, this man firmly established himself as a well-loved figure in and around the team. After all, there’s nothing like an NBA championship to fortify your bond with your teammates and the city.
Damian Lillard Looking Ahead
Right now, though, Lillard is looking ahead. He’s eager to put all the drama behind him as he aims to prove to everyone out there that he is indeed worth all the trouble for the Bucks.
According to Dame, he is adamant that he has the ability to take this team to another level — one that will ultimately result in a title:
“I just think they believed that I could bring something to complement Giannis, to complement Khris [Middleton], Brook [Lopez] and the rest of the guys that will kind of reestablish them as a team that can get it done again,” he said. “And I’m here to get it done for the first time in my career. That makes for excitement on both sides. Like I said before, our personalities with me and Giannis, the way he plays with the way I play is complementary. And I think that’s why we are here today.”
Not too many folks out there will argue against that notion.
