There’s no denying that the Milwaukee Bucks took a massive risk in trading for Damian Lillard. Not only did they give up a whole lot for the seven-time All-Star, but also, the fact of the matter is that Dame is no spring chicken.
At 33, Lillard still remains to be one of the top point guards in the NBA. At the same time, though, it’s also true that his clock is ticking.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard Claps Back at Critics
Just don’t let Dame hear you say that. At this point in his career, Lillard is having none of the old-man talk. As a matter of fact, the former Rookie of the Year just dropped a bold guarantee about how good he’s still going to be five years from now:
“I’ve shown no signs of slowing down,” Lillard said, via Chris Mannix of SI. “… I’m going to be 38, moving the same way I move right now. I promise you. And shooting, that doesn’t go away.”
It’s hard to argue against the notion that he’s not slowing down. Injuries have gotten in the way of his dominance in the NBA, but so long as he’s on the floor, Dame is still as good as he ever has been. In fact, he’s coming off his best season with averages of 32.2 points on 46.3 percent shooting, 4.8 rebounds, 7.3 assists, while also knocking down 4.2 triples per contest on a 37.1 percent clip.
He has an excellent point about his shooting too, in that that aspect of a player’s game isn’t significantly impacted by one’s age.
The good news for Bucks fans is that they’ve got this man locked up through 2027 (with a player option in that final year). So long as everything goes according to plan, Lillard should get a chance to live up to this bold promise while he’s in Milwaukee.
