Damian Lillard and the Milwaukee Bucks did all they could to set aside all the commotion surrounding Dame’s return to Portland on Wednesday night. After all, the Bucks were coming off a tough loss on Monday night against the defending champs Denver Nuggets, and they knew they needed to bounce back.
The Portland Trail Blazers, however, had other plans.
Milwaukee Bucks Coach Doc Rivers Speaks Out on Blazers’ Win
The Blazers came into this one with a mission, and that was to spoil Lillard’s emotional homecoming by handing him a loss. Portland did just that by securing an impressive 119-116 victory to mark just their 15th win of the season.
It wasn’t just any victory, though. According to Bucks head coach Doc Rivers, the Blazers went into the game with a little more fire under their belly as they looked to make their mark on Dame’s special night.
“These games are tough games,” Rivers said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “The home team always wants to beat the star coming back. That’s 100 percent. You can see in their jubilation after the game.”
The fans welcomed Lillard back with open arms as they paid homage to their former cornerstone superstar. However, you could also feel throughout the game that the supporters were desperate for a win as well.
The Blazers haven’t won too many games this season and this is likely going to be the case for this rebuilding squad the rest of the way. This is exactly why it was important for them to notch a marquee victory on Wednesday night against Lillard and the mighty Bucks.
