Thursday night’s much-awaited NBA In-Season Tournament semifinal showdown between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Indiana Pacers was met by a tragic disaster less than 24 hours before the game tipped off. This is after three people were killed by a school shooting at the UNLV campus, which is just a few streets away from the venue of the IST semifinal, the T-Mobile Arena.
Milwaukee Bucks Coach Reacts to UNLV Shooting
Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin opened his press conference by addressing the incident. The rookie shot-caller sent his condolences to the victims as he talked about the tragedy. This comes via ESPN’s Tim Bontemps:
“Bucks coach Adrian Griffin starts his press conference ahead of today’s semifinal against the Pacers expressing condolences on behalf of the entire Bucks organization to the three victims of yesterday’s shooting on UNLV’s campus. ‘This stuff shouldn’t happen,'” Bontemps wrote in his tweet.
According to reports, the shooter was a college professor in his 60s who recently applied for a job in UNLV. His application was denied.
Per Nadine Yousif of BBC, the name of the suspect is Anthony Polito, who was killed by Las Vegas police during an on-site shootout.
This most recent shooting has shaken the city to its core. It comes just six years after the infamous 2017 Las Vegas shooting, which claimed the lives of no less than 60 people, making it the deadliest mass shooting in United States history.
