There’s no doubt that the Milwaukee Bucks are among the few teams that can go far in the playoffs and potentially win the championship this season. After a huge performance against the Detroit Pistons recently, the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led squad is shaping up to be a big threat in the postseason.
And speaking of the Greek Freak, the All-Star forward is performing well on the court. With averages of 31.2 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 6.0 assists during the regular season, it will be surprising if he isn’t included in the MVP race. Plus, the fact that an injured Antetokounmpo put up big numbers during their game against the Pistons is an indication enough of his talent.
Add Damian Lillard to the mix, and there’s enough firepower for the Bucks to get another ring in the coming months. And if Lillard keeps his foot on the gas, there’s no reason for Milwaukee to fail in the postseason.
Milwaukee Bucks Gains Dejounte Murray in a Proposed Trade for Bobby Portis and Draft Picks
But of course, it’s better to be sure when pursuing another ring for the Bucks. Doing so means a trade or two must be done to secure a championship for Antetokounmpo, Lillard, and company.
Among the names that can be considered is the Atlanta Hawks’ Dejounte Murray. The lanky guard can play off the ball next to Lillard and Antetokounmpo while having the talent to create his own shot if needed.
With Murray as a trade target, the Bucks will have more offensive firepower to overwhelm teams in the playoffs. But in this projected trade by Sir Charles in Charge, Milwaukee has to let go of Bobby Portis, Pat Connaughton, and a number of draft picks to make the trade happen.
Per Sir Sharles in Charge: Because the Bucks have no outright first-round picks to send to Atlanta in a deal, they’d have to get creative with picks already owed to other teams or the Hawks would have to settle for second-round picks. Quite frankly, it’s a tall task either way for the Bucks.
Milwaukee could also theoretically add a third team to this deal and send Portis that way in exchange for some draft compensation that would come in to Atlanta. It would add another layer of complexity to a potential deal, but that is the pathway that Milwaukee would have to explore if they want to land Murray.
In this current framework, the Bucks would then have a starting 5 of Damian Lillard, Murray, Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Brook Lopez. That’s a starting 5 of talent that could rival what the Celtics roll out.
While it would be a shame to let a fan-favorite like Portis go, the upside of having Murray in the lineup is just too good to pass up. The trade deadline is on February 8, which means the Bucks still have time to make this trade happen.
