Damian Lillard had another outstanding performance for the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday as the eight-time All-Star led his team to a 140-129 victory over the Phoenix Suns. Lillard could not do it alone, though, and he needed a lot of help from his teammates as Giannis Antetokounmpo watched from the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
Enter, Bobby Portis.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Bobby Portis Fires Savage Shot at Haters
Lillard went off for 31 points and 16 assists in what was truly an awe-inspiring showcase of talent and willpower. Portis wasn’t far behind, though, matching Dame with 31 points of his own. The 6-foot-10 big man also added 10 rebounds, two assists, and three steals, while going a perfect 5-of-5 from his attempts from deep.
After one of his best performances of the season, Portis just had to send a message to anyone and everyone who has and continues to doubt what he brings to the table for Milwaukee:
“I think I do that a lot, bro,” Portis said (h/t Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel). “I be in my own zone, man. Try to block out all the naysayers. They been talking crazy about me all year long, trade him, all type of stuff. So I get in my own zone when I’m on the court, I’m just like that, man. Get back to who I used to be, go out there and play with confidence, shoot the ball, miss or make, come back the next day, be who I am. Not a whole lot of chitter-chatter about who I am, you feel me? Just trying to shut the naysayers up, make ’em believe. That’s all it is for real.
“I got confidence. I got confidence in my coaches. They got confidence in me. They pour confidence into my teammates, pour confidence into me and make it easy for me to go out there and just hoop. That’s all I’ve been trying to do the second half of the season, up my game each and every day.”

Despite being one of the most valuable members of the squad, Portis has constantly seen his name dragged into all sorts of trade rumors. The Bucks stood firm, though, and they showed their loyalty to the 29-year-old by keeping him on the squad past the trade deadline.
Portis is well aware of the chatter, which is why he uses performances such as this to prove that he absolutely deserves to put on that Bucks jersey every single night.
