Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames is a popular name in trade rumors around the league. Despite the Brew Crew being in first place and looking like serious post season contenders it’s possible that GM Matt Arnold is weighing the pros and cons of trading his team leader who just so happens to be an impending free agent. Recently one team lost their starting shortstop and could look to the Brewers to strike a deal for Adames.
Los Angeles Dodgers 2024 MVP candidate Mookie Betts suffered a broken hand.

2024 has been Mookie Betts’ first year as a shortstop. He has handled the pressure well while also putting up MVP like offensive numbers. Unfortunately he was hit by a pitch in the hand, suffered a fracture, and will miss some time. Miguel Rojas will take over in the interim, but per Zach Pressnell of Fansided it now makes sense for the Dodgers to aggressively pursue Willy Adames as an emergency replacement.
Milwaukee Brewers – Los Angeles Dodgers trade proposal for Willy Adames.

Zach Pressnell also proposed a hypothetical trade between the Brewers and Dodgers. His proposal has both Willy Adames and prospect Mike Boeve heading to Los Angeles in exchange for controllable starting pitcher Landon Knack. He acknowledged that trades between contending teams are rare, but this deal would help both organizations address needs.
For the Dodgers, this trade is simple. They need a shortstop until Betts returns. After that, Adames can be moved around as a flexible infielder, playing anywhere the Dodgers need him to. His bat would stick in their lineup and it would make their team even more dangerous. Knack doesn’t have a spot in Los Angeles right now, so the Dodgers could trade him and not suffer the consequences just yet.
The Milwaukee Brewers have leverage over the Los Angeles Dodgers in this situation.

Although the Brewers have a pressing need for starting pitchers they should be getting some players back from injury in the near future. The Dodgers on the other hand have no timetable set for when Mookie Betts will return. This gives the Brewers all the leverage and it’s hard to imagine them sending both Adames and a top infield prospect in Boeve in exchange for a 26 year old pitcher who is blocked from the Dodgers starting rotation.
If Milwaukee is going to trade Adames, or trade for a starting pitcher, they could certainly strike a deal elsewhere without giving up a top prospect as well. While Betts injury does make the Dodgers need for a shortstop more pressing I wouldn’t expect the Brewers to agree to a deal that was proposed above.

There’s zero chance Adames is getting traded. ZERO
