Rhys Hoskins and the Milwaukee Brewers fell short in Game 1 of their National League Wild-Card Rund series against the New York Mets on Tuesday, as they suffered an 8-4 loss. Things actually started well for Milwaukee, as the Brewers had a 2-0 lead in the first inning. But the Mets proved they’re tough to overcome, as they took a 3-2 lead by the end of the second frame.
The defining inning of the contest took place in the fifth frame, with the Brewers’ bullpen imploding. Joel Payamps and Ashby gave up a combined total of five earned runs to the Mets, who did not look back after that.
Despite the Brewers having their backs against the wall, Milwaukee first baseman Rhys Hoskins believes that his team will just be fine.
“Obviously you want to win game one, put some pressure on the other team,” Hoskins told reporters following the game, per Bally Sports Wisconson (h/t ClutchPoints).
“But we’ve won two games in a row plenty of times this season. And yeah, we got knocked down enough this year but also gotten back up that I think we’re confident that we have the ability to do that 100 percent. We just have to believe that,” Hoskins added.
Rhys Hoskins, Milwaukee Brewers will have to get it together in Game 2
The resilience of Hoskins and the Brewers will be put to the test this Wednesday, as they look to stretch the series and keep their World Series hopes alive.
Hoskins went just 0-for-3 in Game 1 with a strikeout. In Game 2, the Brewers will face Mets starter Sean Manaea, who has allowed Hoskins to go 2-for-6 with two home runs in their career matchups.
