The Milwaukee Brewers scored four runs off of New York Mets starting pitcher Luis Severino in the first four innings of Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series. Milwaukee had a 4-3 lead after the first four innings until they gave up five runs in the fifth inning and lost 8-4 in Game 1 to the Mets.
With the loss, the Brewers are on the brink of elimination once again. Severino pitched six innings and gave up eight hits and four runs, but he only walked two batters and struck out three batters.
New York Mets Pitcher Luis Severino Not Satisfied With the Game 1 Win
Despite the Mets just winning Game 1, Severino knows that the Mets have many more games to win this postseason if they want to reach their ultimate goal. If the New York Mets win Game 2 on Wednesday night, they will face the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS.
Severino said to the media after the game:
“We’re not satisfied. We know the potential that we have in that clubhouse. We’re gonna fight. We’re gonna fight until the end. Hopefully that end is going to be in the World Series.”
The Mets did a great job of responding against the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1. When Milwaukee scored two runs in the first inning, the Mets scored three runs in the second inning. If the Brewers are going to come back and win this series, they are going raise it to another level.
Mets Looking For First NLDS Appearance Since 2015
The last two times the Mets were in the playoffs, they failed to get past the wild-card round against the San Francisco Giants in 2016 and the San Diego Padres in 2022. If the Mets get past the Milwaukee Brewers, they will advance to the NLDS for the first time since 2015.
The New York Mets made it to the World Series that year and lost to the Kansas City Royals in five games. It appears that New York might have that magic in them this year, but the Brewers have responded many times this season.
