Last season, the Milwaukee Brewers tied a franchise record by using 17 different pitchers as starters/openers. At the beginning of the year, their starting rotation was made up of Freddy Peralta, Colin Rea, Jakob Junis, Joe Ross, and DL Hall. Junis, Ross, and Hall all spent the majority of the season on the injured list. Only Hall remains with the team, and he is starting the 2025 season on the 60-day IL.
Brandon Woodruff, of course, missed all of 2024 as he recovered from shoulder surgery. He is expected to play a role in the starting rotation this year, but it has yet to be determined when that will be.
Aaron Ashby spent much of last year injured too, and has recently been shut down due to an oblique strain.
In other words, Milwaukee’s starting rotation has already taken some hits, and over the weekend it took one more.
Milwaukee Brewers Starting Pitcher Tobias Myers Will Start the 2025 MLB Season on IL

Last season, Tobias Myers made 25 starts, the third-most on the team, and went 9-6 with a 3.00 ERA. After such a stellar rookie season, many fans expected him to be a key contributor early and often in 2025.
Unfortunately, he will not be able to start the season with the Brewers.
Over the weekend, Myers was pulled from a Spring Training game with oblique discomfort. While the pitcher himself did not think it was that big of an issue, manager Pat Murphy was deeply concerned.
On Monday, it was revealed that Myers did indeed suffer an oblique strain and will start the season on the injured list. The good news, however, is that he will not be out long:
Tobias Myers will begin the year on the injured list with an oblique strain, but the Brewers feel they can get it under control fairly quickly. “Better than we were expecting,” Pat Murphy said. A return in April “could be in play.”

With Myers out, Milwaukee’s first three starting pitchers will be Peralta, Cortes, and Aaron Civale. Jose Quintana was recently signed, but he may need an extended Spring Training to get ready for the season as he did not join the Brewers until recently.
Fortunately, there are more days off in April, which means Murphy can spread out his starters a little bit more.
