Milwaukee Brewers fans favorite time of the year is almost upon us. That is the month of September. During this month manager Craig Counsell has historically done very well and utilized roster expansions to his advantage. A few years ago the rules changed and now active rosters can only increase by two players for September call ups. Here we will take a look at three possible call up candidates who are all currently not on the 40-man roster.
Three Milwaukee Brewers September call up candidates.
- Brewers September call up candidate #1: INF Tyler Black
Tyler Black quickly became a prospect favorite among the fan base this year. The 33rd overall pick in the 2021 draft sustained fractures to his scapula and thumb in 2022, but he has remained healthy this year and is putting up monster numbers. While playing strictly third and first base defensively the left-handed speedster has a .906 OPS this year across the Double and Triple-A levels and has 49 stolen bases to go along with that. His contact oriented approach and speed could make an impact at the big league level this year.
- Brewers September call up candidate #2: LHP Robert Gasser
Acquired during the Josh Hader trade, sixth ranked prospect Robert Gasser has been racking up a ton of strikeouts in Triple-A Nashville. He currently leads the International League in that category and he has addressed walk issues that plagued him earlier this year. Although he is a starting pitcher, Milwaukee could use a boost in regards to viable left-handed bullpen options this year so perhaps that is a role we see Gasser in if he is called up in September.
- Brewers September call up candidate #3: RHP Jacob Misiorowski
It may be a long shot to see Jacob Misiorowski jump from Double-A to the big leagues, but his stuff on the mound would currently play against Major League hitters. Command appears to be the flame thrower’s last hurdle because his combination of a triple digit heater and wipe out slider has been causing hitters issues all year. Similar to Gasser a bullpen role is likely how Misiorowski would be utilized if called up.
Rosters will expand for September call ups in one week. The Milwaukee Brewers have some decisions to make in regards to who they want to call up. They could go with any of the non 40-man roster players mentioned above, but they do also have veterans like Jesse Winker and Julio Teheran nearing returns from injury.
