Milwaukee Brewers pitchers and catchers are set to report to spring training in less than one week as February 14th is their official start date. The remainder of the squad will report by February 20th and their first spring training game will be on February 24. With baseball right around the corner the Brewers non-roster invitee list is continuing to grow.
Who are the Milwaukee Brewers current non-roster invitees?
Top prospects like Tyler Black, Robert Gasser, Jacob Misiorowski, Carlos Rodriguez, Brock Wilken, Wes Clarke, and Evan McKendry have all been invited. Additionally under the radar guys like Tobias Myers, Austin Nola, Rob Zastryzny, Sam Carlson, Easton McGee, and Brewer Hicklen will be present as well.
Recently Milwaukee announced the addition of a non-roster invitee. That player is a 26 year old Venezuelan pitcher who has been in the Brewers organization since signing as an international free agent in 2015.
Harold Chirino has received a big league camp invite.
After signing in 2015 it took until 2021 for Harold Chirino to make his affiliated ball debut. As a reliever he put up good numbers in High-A Wisconsin that year as the Timber Rattler posted a 3.88 ERA. He additionally struck out 75 batters over 51 innings of work.
Over the past two seasons he has been in Double-A. A full season with Biloxi in 2022 netted him a 3.29 ERA over 52 innings pitched. He started the 2023 season with the Shuckers, threw 14 scoreless innings, but then sat out the remainder of the season due to an injury.
Is Harold Chirino a dark horse candidate to make the Brewers roster?
It is very unlikely that Chirino breaks camp on the Brewers big league roster, but he should get a good look from the team during spring training. He has a solid track record of success in the minor leagues and presumably will start the year in Triple-A. Depending upon how things go it’s possible that he makes his MLB debut in 2024, but a lot would have to happen in order for him to be given that opportunity.
