The Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves just finished up an entertaining series that saw the visiting Braves win two out of three games. Both Atlanta victories came by two runs and Milwaukee’s lone win was a suspenseful one run victory in which Sal Frelick had an incredible MLB debut and closer Devin Williams left the bases loaded to end the game.
Missing from game action over the last two contests in this series was Brewers rookie outfielder Joey Wiemer. His absence coincided with the promotion of Sal Frelick and Craig Counsell utilized Blake Perkins in center field for both games. This begs the question “why has Joey Wiemer not been in the lineup?”

Joey Wiemer was not in the Milwaukee Brewers lineup the past two days against the Atlanta Braves due to a ‘baseball decision’.
Brewers beat reporter Adam McCalvy relayed this information on his Twitter page. This vague description titled a ‘baseball decision’ can be taken several ways, but the important part is that Joey Wiemer did not miss any games due to being injured.
Wiemer is not hurt. This two-day absence from the lineup falls in the category of baseball decision, I’m told. https://t.co/cmylDhJhTT

Among a myriad of hypothetical reasons it is possible that A) Joey Wiemer needed some rest, B) Craig Counsell felt more comfortable with switch hitter Blake Perkins this weekend in which he has been equally as good defensively this year, C) At the plate Joey Wiemer is having a tough time, so perhaps it was a performance based baseball decision.
Milwaukee has not provided the exact details behind this ‘baseball decision’ but odds are he will be back in the lineup soon. Keeping him out of the lineup and not getting at-bats won’t do him any good. If they want him to get back into a groove offensively they could temporarily demote him to Triple-A. This happened to Brice Turang earlier this year.
How much he plays against the Cincinnati Reds will be worth monitoring.
