The Milwaukee Brewers 2023 MLB draft is complete. It was an extremely pitcher-heavy draft for the Brew Crew, but they also grabbed two exciting college hitters as well as two exciting high school bats. Of their prep selections one is drawing comparisons to Baltimore Orioles third baseman Gunnar Henderson.
Milwaukee Brewers sixth round draft pick Cooper Pratt is drawing comparisons to Baltimore Orioles third baseman Gunnar Henderson.
In 2019 Gunnar Henderson was selected 42nd overall. He came out of a private high school in the southern United states and quickly became a highly regarded prospect. By 2022 he made his big league debut and is now a big part of a young Orioles team.
Cooper Pratt similarly attended a private high school in the south. Scouts see a lot of similarities between the two for they both had tall projectable builds with the potential for solid or better tools across the board. Additionally both finished the showcase circuit as one of the top performers at the World Wood Bat Association World Series.
While Gunnar Henderson bats from the left side and Cooper Pratt the right, Pratt projects to be a five tool player. Of the 2023 high school draft class he had some of the best bat-to-ball skills and strike-zone awareness.
MLB Pipeline had him ranked 45th entering the draft. He ended up falling and being selected in the sixth round/182nd overall. Milwaukee will have to go over slot to pry him away from his commitment to Mississippi, but with his high potential and being selected so late he could be the steal of the 2023 draft.
