The Milwaukee Brewers and Minnesota Twins agreed to a trade on April 30, 2023. This transaction sent pitcher Trevor Megill from the Twins to the Brewers in exchange for a player to be named later (PTBNL). Just over six weeks later that trade has finally been completed and the PTBNL has been revealed.
Taylor Floyd is the player to be named later in the Milwaukee Brewers-Minnesota Twins trade that revolved around Trevor Megill.
25 year old Taylor Floyd is a right-handed pitcher who was drafted in the 10th round of the 2019 MLB draft by Milwaukee. He’s been a bullpen pitcher since fully starting his affiliated ball career in 2021 and overall has a 4.15 ERA in the minor leagues.
Since 2021 Taylor Floyd has bounced around between the Single-A and Double-A levels in the Brewers system. He is currently in High-A Wisconsin and has a 3.04 ERA over 23.2 innings pitched. His strikeout rate this year sits at 12.2 K:9 and throughout his career it is 12.0. Command and limiting base runners have been his biggest issue so far and this is evidenced by a career 5.0 BB:9 and 1.36 WHIP.
For the Brewers they have seen both positive and negative results from Trevor Megill so far. He throws consistently near or in the triple digits but walks have been an issue. Through his first 11 appearances with Milwaukee he has a 3.97 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP.
Time will tell how this trade fully plays out but it was a low risk move by both organizations.
