The Milwaukee Brewers began the 2023 season with Matt Bush as their eighth inning set up man. He burst onto the scene as a high leverage reliever with the Texas Rangers in 2022. Milwaukee acquired him via trade last July in which they parted ways with pitching prospect Antoine Kelly and infielder Mark Mathias.

Unfortunately his tenure with the Brewers was a rocky one. In both 2022 and 2023 he struggled and Milwaukee elected to designate him for assignment prior to Independence Day. He quickly re-joined the Texas Rangers organization by signing a minor league contract and now will be joining their big league roster for the final two games of the regular season.
Former Milwaukee Brewers reliever Matt Bush has his contract selected by the Texas Rangers.

Since re-joining the Rangers Matt Bush has played for both their Double-A and Triple-A affiliate teams. In Double-A he appeared in 15 games, threw 18.0 innings, struck out 22 batters, and had 3.00 ERA. One level higher he pitched in nine games, accumulated 12.2 innings pitched, struck out 16, and had a 2.13 ERA.
The corresponding roster move to Texas adding Matt Bush is that they optioned left-hander Jake Latz to Triple-A and designated right-hander Alex Speas for assignment. Matt Bush last appeared in a big league game on June 30 and he now will join a Rangers team that has not yet secured the division or a playoff spot.
At the time that the Rangers added Matt Bush they had a one game lead in the division over the Houston Astros and two games over the Seattle Mariners. Texas and Seattle are currently squaring off against one another whereas Houston is taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks.

All that being said Matt Bush could have a role in how the Rangers season turns out. It could result in him popping champagne with the team or missing out on the post season.
