The Milwaukee Brewers are coming off another tough post-season exit.  After winning their division and finishing with a record of 92-70, there was a ton of optimism surrounding this team going into the playoffs.

That optimism was quickly dashed with the Arizona Diamondbacks swept Milwaukee in the Wild Card round.  Their off-season has just began, however, they have already received some devastating news for next season.

According to Brewers beat writer Adam McCalvy:

News from the Brewers: RHP Brandon Woodruff underwent surgery today to repair the anterior capsule in his right shoulder. He is expected to miss most, if not all, of next season, according to the club.

Brewers GM Matt Arnold released this statement: “Brandon is not only one of the best pitchers in our franchise’s history, but is also a valued member of our organization off the field. He and his wife, Jonie, have gone above and beyond here in the community.”

Arnold, continued: “Brandon’s health is our top priority at this point in time.”

During his final start of the regular season, Woodruff sustained a right shoulder capsule injury, which prevented him from participating in the Brewers’ NL Wild Card Series loss to the Diamondbacks.

He only made 11 starts this season due to shoulder issues, but he pitched well when healthy, posting a 2.28 ERA, a 0.82 WHIP, and a 74:15 K:BB ratio over 67 innings. He will be eligible for arbitration for a final time this winter.
