The Milwaukee Brewers will wear a commemorative patch on their uniforms this year in honor of legendary radio broadcaster Bob Uecker, who passed away earlier this year from cancer at the age of 91. Indeed, baseball season as a whole will never be the same without the Hall of Fame broadcaster, whose golden voice and storytelling prowess was unmatched.
And while Uecker cut back on the number of games that he called over the last few years, listening to him calling games on the radio was something fans in Milwaukee and around the country looked forward to each season.
But for Opening Day, at least, fans around the country will be able to see and hear another legendary broadcaster call a Brewers game.
Legendary Broadcaster Joe Buck Will Call the Milwaukee Brewers vs New York Yankees on Opening Day

According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, Joe Buck, who currently works for ESPN as the voice of Monday Night Football, is making his return to baseball after a four-year absence to call the Opening Day game between the Brewers and New York Yankees.
As sports fans may recall, Buck left Fox Sports in 2022 to move to ESPN. During his time with Fox, he called 24 World Series, making him no stranger to the baseball booth. And, of course, his father, Hall of Fame broadcaster Jack Buck, was the voice of the St. Louis Cardinals for decades.
“I feel like the right way to do it is to act like I’ve been doing it for the past four years, even though I haven’t,” Buck told Marchand.
“I know what I’ve said in the past about this stuff, but I’m not really good at saying no and I think I inherited that from my dad. Because Mark asked me and I really love the guy and think the world of him, I said, ‘Yes.’
“It is exciting to think about doing the game at Yankee Stadium, where I’ve called World Series. I’m not saying that if it wasn’t the Yankees, I probably wouldn’t have done it, but that might be true. It’s the Yankees at home on Opening Day against a division winner.”
As one can tell from Buck’s statements to Marchand, the fact that the Brewers are playing had little-to-no bearing on his decision to return to baseball, if just for one day. However, it is fitting that, in their first Opening Day without Uecker, fans will be able to experience the game being called by another nationally respected announcer.
