The Milwaukee Brewers are in the midst of a promising start to the 2024 MLB season. Currently the Brewers are 29-21 on the season and hold a 2.5 game lead for first place over the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central.
Now, just a few months into the season the Brewers have traded for a 26-year-old pitcher.

A trade has been made by the Brewers to acquire more pitching. A near-MLB ready pitcher has been added to the Brewers’ rotation, even though it isn’t the major type of trade many fans may be looking for to boost an injured rotation.
In exchange for Triple-A righty Garrett Stallings, the Brewers traded recently DFAed reliever Thyago Vieira and minor league pitching prospect Aneuris Rodriguez to the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.
Vieira was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Monday, and the Brewers were able to trade for a player after widespread interest in his hard-throwing abilities.

Who Is New Brewers Pitcher Garrett Stallings?
David Gasper of Reviewing the Brew did an incredible job highlighting who the new Brewers’ pitcher is:
Garrett Stallings is a 26 year old righty that was a 5th round pick of the Angels back in 2019 out of the University of Tennessee. The Orioles acquired him in a trade for Jose Iglesias before the 2021 season. He’s slowly worked his way up to Triple-A, moving slowly because his results haven’t been particularly great at any level so far.
This season, Stallings has a 5.67 ERA in 11 appearances and four starts covering 27 IP. He’s struck out 25 batters and walked 13. For his career, Stallings has a 5.41 ERA in the minor leagues and he’s yet to make his MLB debut. He is not on the 40 man roster.
In his most recent outing, Stallings went four innings allowing just one earned run and striking out four. The Orioles have been stretching him out of late, which could put him in the conversation for the Brewers rotation picture at some point if he can continue to improve his results.
Stallings has a four pitch mix, although none of them are overly dominant. He thrives on command to help his stuff play up, although his command has backed up a bit in 2024. Perhaps the Brewers see something they can fix to help Stallings reach his potential.
It will be interesting to see what kind of role Stallings can carve out for himself on the Brewers’ roster.
