The New York Mets lead this series against the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 in the National League Wild Card Round. A Mets win in Game 2 sends them to the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies and a Brewers win keeps them alive for another day.
Game 2 will be at 6:38 p.m. CT. The projected starting pitchers will be Sean Manaea for New York (12-6 record, 3.47 ERA) and Frankie Montas (7-11 record, 4.84 ERA) for Milwaukee. Manaea has pitched well in the second half of the season for the Mets and Frankie Montas will need to have a good outing for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Milwaukee Brewers Players To Watch For Against the New York Mets
In Game 1 for Pat Murphy’s squad, second baseman Brice Turang went 3-for-5. He was 3-for-3 to start the game for the Brewers and didn’t get a hit in his final two at-bats.
Catcher Willam Contreras went 1-for-4 in Game 1 for Milwaukee and had 2 RBIs. He has been one of the best players for this team all season long.
Frankie Montas pitched in 11 games during the regular season for the Milwaukee Brewers. He pitched in 57.1 innings this season and gave up 47 hits and 33 runs. Montas also walked 25 batters and struck out 70 batters.
Mets Key Players
In Game 1 for Carlos Mendoza’s squad, third baseman Mark Vientos went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. He hit the go-ahead two-run single for the Mets in the fifth inning.
Designated Hitter Jesse Winker went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs and had a triple for New York. He was pulled out of the game for J.D. Martinez.
Sean Manaea has pitched in 32 games this season with the New York Mets. He pitched in 181.2 innings and gave up 134 hits and 75 runs. Manaea also walked 63 batters and struck out 184 batters.
If the Mets score early in Game 2 against the Brewers, the pressure will be on for Milwaukee. It will be important for them to get a lead early and make New York chase the game again. The Mets deserve credit for the comeback in Game 1, but Milwaukee will need to better in Game 2.
