The Milwaukee Brewers have reported for Spring Training, with pitchers and catchers officially showing up on Wednesday for one of the earliest signs of warmer weather ahead. While the weeks of Spring Training fly by quickly, it sometimes takes a while for managers to make decisions on final roster spots and which pitchers will fill out their starting rotation.
For many teams, fans must wait for the latter days of Spring Training until they are made aware of who the Opening Day starter will be. That, however, is not the case in Milwaukee, as 2024 NL Manager of the Year Pat Murphy has already reached a decision.
Freddy Peralta Will be the Opening Day Starter for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2025

Speaking to reporters on the first day of Spring Training, Murphy was asked if he knew who his Opening Day starter was going to be already. In typical Murphy fashion, he gave reporters the answer they were looking for:
A Spring Training Day 1 tradition: Ask the manager to name an Opening Day starter. Pat Murphy obliged! (Not that there’s much debate here.)
“Freddy,” he said. “Run with it.”

Last season, Freddy Peralta started on Opening Day for the first time in his career. Corbin Burnes had started each of the previous two openers, and Brandon Woodruff the two before that.
Peralta was 11-9 with a 3.68 ERA and 1.22 WHIP while making a career-high 32 starts last season. He reached 200 strikeouts for the second year in a row, doing so in 173.2 innings pitched.
Milwaukee Brewers Fans Have Mixed Reactions to Freddy Peralta Starting on Opening Day Again

While Peralta was one of Milwaukee’s most reliable pitchers last season, many fans were frustrated by his short outings and struggles to finish off hitters after getting ahead in the count.
Some are worried that these struggles will continue in 2025, though some are excited to see Peralta leading the pitching staff again:

Aaah can’t wait for the 0-2 counts that turn into walks.

Peralta is certainly one of best pitchers the Brewers have, if not their very best starter. Hopefully he continues to get even better in 2025, and most importantly is able to pitch deeper into games.
