Milwaukee Brewers pitchers and catchers reported for Spring Training on Wednesday to start their team preparations for the 2025 MLB season. One of the biggest questions for Milwaukee this season is who will anchor the starting rotation behind Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers, the only pitchers remaining on staff who made at least 27 starts last season. Peralta was the only one who made 30.
There are many candidates to fill the rotation in-house, notably Nestor Cortes, who was acquired by the Brewers from the New York Yankees in exchange for Devin Williams earlier this offseason. However, there are several projected starters who are battling for, at most, two spots in the rotation.
At some point in this season, two-time All-Star Brandon Woodruff figures to be a part of that group of pitchers. However, manager Pat Murphy stated earlier that he does not envision him being ready for Opening Day, which led many fans to believe Woodruff was hurt again or suffered a setback.
Milwaukee Brewers Starter Brandon Woodruff Has Not Experience a Set Back

Speaking to reporters for the first time this spring, Woodruff answered some questions about his offseason recovery. What is more, he revealed that he is scheduled to face live hitters on Friday, which will be the first time he does so since September of 2023.
He also wanted to make it clear that he has not suffered any setbacks:

“I’m in a good spot,” Woodruff said. “I got cleared to face hitters for the first time on Friday, so it’s been roughly a year and half somewhere in there, so looking forward to that and letting that being another little hurdle to get over and go from there.”
He later explained that the uncertainty of his availability for Opening Day has nothing to do with a setback or another injury. Instead, it has everything to do with how long it takes his body to recover from throwing.
“I haven’t had a setback. I want to make this clear. When you have a surgery, especially a shoulder surgery, you have to do things differently and build up differently. My progression is going to be a little bit slower. It’s not because I have had a setback, because I haven’t.
“It’s just that I’m having to do things a little bit differently, build up a little bit slower. I’m doing great. I’ve been able to throw two bullpens a week, kind of having a normal offseason. And it’s been good. It’s been different, but it’s been good.”
Woodruff did admit, though, that there is not yet a targeted date on when he will appear in a Major League game. It will all depend on how long it takes his body to recover from his pitching sessions.
