The Milwaukee Brewers have connections and ties to numerous players around the league. This Spring there was a large number of former Brew Crew players who signed minor league deals with new organizations. With Opening Day rapidly approaching we recently learned the fate of six former Brewers players
Five former Milwaukee Brewers players who received bad news prior to Opening Day.

- Keston Hiura – Detroit Tigers
The Tigers have informed Hiura that he will not make the Opening Day roster. His minor league contract has a mobility clause in which on March 26, June 1, and August 1 Detroit has to see if any other ball club will give him a 40-man roster spot. If any of them say yes, the Tigers either have to call him up themselves or trade him to the team that wants him.
- Kolten Wong – Baltimore Orioles
As a veteran who finished the 2023 season on the Dodgers 40-man roster Wong has built in opt out dates to his minor league contract with the Orioles. He elected to trigger that opt out date and give the team 48 hours to decide on adding him to their Opening Day roster or releasing him.

- Eduardo Escobar – Toronto Blue Jays
Escobar joined the Blue Jays as a non-roster invitee to camp and has been released by the ball club. The 35 year old veteran has just a .122 batting average and .143 on-base percentage across 41 at-bats this spring.
- Zach Davies – Washington Nationals
31 year old Davies has had a rough go around lately. Over 18 starts he had an ERA of 7.00 last year with the Arizona Diamondbacks. During spring training this year with the Nationals his ERA was 9.00 across 14 innings pitched. This led to him being released.
- Trevor Gott – Oakland Athletics
Gott put together a solid season with the Brewers in 2022. He signed with the Seattle Mariners prior to the start of the 2023 season and was traded to the New York Mets. The Mets then non-tendered him and he signed with Oakland this off-season. He unfortunately will not pitch this year as he is undergoing Tommy John surgery.

- Bowden Francis – Toronto Blue Jays
Francis was a seventh round draft selection by the Brewers in 2017. He was shipped to Toronto alongside Trevor Richards in 2022 in exchange for Rowdy Tellez. In 2023 he appeared in 20 games as a reliever, but the Blue Jays have informed him that he has earned a spot in their starting rotation to begin the 2024 season.
