The Milwaukee Brewers have an exciting farm system full of several very good prospects. One player that may not get talked about as much as they should is their ninth overall prospect Abner Uribe. He is a 23 year flamethrower who is on the brink of a big league call up.
Abner Uribe began the 2023 season pitching in Double-A for the Biloxi Shuckers. He operated as their closer in which he struck out 45.6% of batters faced. A fastball that consistently operates in the triple digits certainly helps with all of the swings and misses but he also has a wipe out slider that he throws in the 90 MPH range.
On June 12, 2023 the Brewers elected to promote him to Triple-A Nashville. His effectiveness against more advanced hitters without the use of the pre-tacked baseball used in Double-A will be one thing to monitor. A second thing to watch will be his command and emotions.
So far the biggest hurdles in Abner Uribe’s game have been the ability to throw strikes/limit walks and keep his emotions in check. His command has improved greatly since the 2022 Arizona Fall League, but he remains a highly emotional pitcher when on the mound that includes a game this season where he was tossed by the home plate umpire AFTER the game had concluded.
What do Milwaukee Brewers personnel think about Abner Uribe? Could a call to the big leagues be in his future?

Abner Uribe has the benefit of being on the 40-man roster on his side. During the offseason the Brewers elected to add him in order to protect him from potentially being selected in the Rule-5 draft. They did this despite him not playing above Low-A ball. Injuries had previously hindered his ability to advance faster.
Recently Milwaukee Brewers farm director Tom Flanagan was asked about the idea of him being promoted to the Brewers.
“For him, it’s also about controlling the emotions. He is really emotional on the mound. I think harnessing that — he’s going to draw attention just because of the stuff he has, the arsenal. He doesn’t need to be flamboyant and all that. This is part of his maturing as a pitcher and a player.
“I think it’s (big league promotion) certainly in the conversation. Once you’re at Triple-A, you’re literally right there. He’s on the 40-man roster, which helps him. We would like to see him stack up a few outings there, continue what he did at Double-A, and then his name is in the mix.”
