In November, the Milwaukee Brewers added right-handed reliever Abner Uribe to the 40-man roster. He was added in order to be protected from the Rule-5 draft. A big reason he was added is because he has a cannon for an arm. Unfortunately, the 22 year old’s development has been hindered due to injury and his highest level of experience consists of three innings at the AA level. Despite this, leading into camp he was a dark horse candidate to make the opening day roster. Now that spring training games are underway, Brewers media is raving about his performance.
Brewers media is raving about pitching prospect Abner Uribe.
Abner Uribe sitting 99 and a wipeout 91 slider. Has even touched 101.
Hell, he might make the team at this rate if he keeps the walks down. #Brewers

Abner Uribe is the biggest surprise for me for the @Brewers
Bowling balls at 100 mph and a filthy 91 mph slider with late depth. Commanding his stuff with impressive mound presence. Going to be a weapon out of the pen for Counsell!

Craig Counsell liked what he saw today from Abner Uribe: “You’re getting swings and misses on a two-seam fastball, lefties and righties. Early count swings and misses. That’s impressive. That’s exciting. Professional hitters know fastball’s coming, and you get it by them.”

In his first big-league camp with Brewers, exciting prospect Abner Uribe can bring 103 mph heat with his fastball, but body control, patience will be key: https://t.co/e2ALuFhLSP via @journalsentinel
