Injuries to the Milwaukee Brewers starting rotation have left them thin at the position. Brandon Woodruff is out until around the All-Star break, Aaron Ashby may potentially return late in the season after undergoing shoulder surgery, and Wade Miley + Eric Lauer are currently rehabbing from injures.
With all of these injuries the Brewers could look to bolster their pitching staff by trading for a starting pitcher. One team they could look to trade with is the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers are not expected to compete for a playoff spot this year, but currently remain within striking distance in a weak AL Central Division. They are below .500 and if they continue to slip record wise they could trade away players who are in the final year of their contract.
A starting pitcher for the Tigers with one year left on his contract is former Cincinnati Red Michael Lorenzen. Through nine starts the 31 year old has a 3.21 ERA. He is not a high strikeout pitcher, but excels at limiting walks and generating weak contact. Brewers fans may remember him most as a two way player for the Reds. He did give up hitting and is currently a pitcher only.
Michael Lorenzen will be making $8.5 million this season, so contract wise any acquiring team may have to consume a portion of his salary. However, he is getting results and the starting pitching market is shaping up to be in high demand this summer. A trade for him may make sense for both the Tigers and Brewers.
Trade proposal lands the Milwaukee Brewers Michael Lorenzen from the Detroit Tigers
Proposed Trade:
Milwaukee Brewers receive:
- Michael Lorenzen
Detroit Tigers receive:
- RHP Cam Robinson
According to MLB trade simulator Michael Lorenzen has a median trade value of 1.4. Reliever Cam Robinson has a trade value of 1.5. This could be a trade that both teams consider because it helps the Brewers address their starting pitching depth and it gives the Tigers a top 30 pitching prospect. Cam Robinson is currently on the Brewers 40-man roster but has not made his major league debut.

That would be a waste of a good prospect. Teheran has been dominant. Lauer and Miley will both return soon (sending Rea out of the rotation we hope). And Woody in about a month.
Watch out then. The team could win a lot of the close ones they’ve lost and maybe the offense finally comes around.
Except Detroit had the second or third best BP ERA in baseball for May It’s no fluke. Lang, Foley, and Vest are for real. So Detroit’s top priority is not BP arms. They have struggled with their starters, but four starting pitchers are about to return. And Detroit likes it AA rotation a lot. So starting pitching is not a priority for them. The Tigers most likely will demand a bat for Lorenzen.
