On Tuesday night, the Milwaukee Brewers started a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves. Milwaukee dominated during this first matchup of the series as they took a glamorous 10-0 victory. The next night, the Brewers came back from two different lead changes during the middle innings to take an 8-5 win over the Braves. After losing two out of three games in their last series against the Braves, the Brewers stepped up by taking two wins on the road.
Milwaukee is 64-49. They lead the NL Central division by six games over the second-place St. Louis Cardinals. Atlanta is 60-53, they are seven games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East division. Once this series concludes, the Brewers will go on to play the Reds, while the Braves will take on the Rockies.
Milwaukee Brewers Delightful 8-5 Win Over the Braves
Two batters into the bottom of the first inning, Braves third baseman Austin Riley ripped an RBI double into the left-center field gap, giving Atlanta the first run of this contest. Another two batters later, first baseman Matt Olson hit a sacrifice fly. Milwaukee would get on the board during the top of the third when third baseman Joey Ortiz cranked an RBI double down the right-field line. Ortiz tied the game up at two during the top of the fifth inning as he hit an RBI single to left field. During the next at-bat center fielder Blake Perkins lined an RBI single to right field, giving Milwaukee the lead.
Braves Take Another Lead, but the Brewers Come Back!
Braves manager Brian Snitker got ejected from the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when he argued with the ump over a strike call given to new Braves right fielder Jorge Soler. Just one batter later, Riley crushed a two-run home run to left center field to give Atlanta a 4-3 lead. Brewers catcher Gary Sanchez tied the game up at four during the top of the sixth inning when he thrashed an RBI single to left field. Four batters later, Blake Perkins belted a two-run single to center field.
Joey Ortiz extended Milwaukee’s lead at the top of the eighth when he lined another RBI double, this time down the left field line. Two batters later, second baseman Andruw Monasterio hit an RBI single to give Milwaukee an 8-4 win and an eventual win.
Top Performers from the Brewers 8-5 Win
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta pitched five innings allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six. Center fielder Blake Perkins went three for five with three RBIs while Joey Ortiz went three for four with two RBIs in the win. Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale pitched four and two third innings allowing two runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters. Austin Riley went two for four with three RBIs in the loss.
