The Milwaukee Brewers are an incredibly young team. Many of their major contributors are just rookies or second-year players with little Major League experience. Of course, there are veterans who lead the team, such as Christian Yelich, William Contreras, and Willy Adames; but Milwaukee has relied on their young group of recent and current prospects to fill out their roster and help them win games.
And that they have. With their 10-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon, the Brewers improved to 26-17 and, for the moment, have a two game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central Division. Pittsburgh, with the loss, fell to 19-25 and are seven-and-a-half games back of Milwaukee, just like the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds.
It was as good a win as the Brewers have had all season, and two of their young rookies made some team and Major League history in it.
Robert Gasser Becomes the First Milwaukee Brewers Pitcher to Record 2 Wins In First 2 Appearances
Recently promoted left-handed pitcher Robert Gasser got the win in his second career start. He pitched five complete innings, allowed just one run on six hits and a walk, and struck out two.
It was a nice follow up to his first career start against the St. Louis Cardinals last week. In that game, he also picked up the win, going six innings while allowing no runs on two hits. He struck out four in that game.
According to the Brewers, Gasser is the first pitcher in franchise history to pick up a win in each of his first two starts:

In his first two Major League starts, Gasser is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA and 0.82 WHIP. Prior to being called up by Milwaukee, he was 0-1 with a 5.25 ERA in three starts at Triple-A Nashville.
Milwaukee Brewers Phenom Jackson Chourio Joins an Elite List of Players
The Brewers’ offense was able to launch five home runs against Pirates starter Martin Perez. The shots were hit by Contreras, Gary Sanchez, Joey Ortiz, Sal Frelick, and Jackson Chourio. It was the third time in franchise history that the team hit five home runs in a game against a starting pitcher.
For Chourio, it was his first home run in nearly a month, but his fifth of the season. He has played 39 games so far this season, making him just the fourth player in Major League history with five home runs and five stolen bases to log those totals in that amount of time:
5+ HR & 5+ SB in first 39 career games at age 20 or younger (since at least 1901):
2024 Jackson Chourio
2019 Fernando Tatis Jr.
2015 Carlos Correa
1989 Ken Griffey Jr. https://t.co/QQtUExhDIL— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) May 15, 2024
As seen above, the three players who have accomplished this feat before him are Ken Griffey Jr., Frenando Tatis Jr., and Carlos Correa.
That is some pretty good company for the rookie, who went 2-4 and now has a hit in back-to-back games.
