The Milwaukee Brewers have made their first waiver claim of the 2023-2024 offseason. Coming to the Brew Crew is a utility player who plays all over the infield but also can serve as a corner outfielder. This is Vinny Capra and he previously was a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.

Milwaukee Brewers claim former Pittsburgh Pirates utility player Vinny Capra.
Vinny Capra was a 20th round draft selection by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018. He made his MLB debut with the Blue Jays in April of 2022, but ended up undergoing finger surgery later that year in October. This led to him being non-tendered by Toronto, but he re-signed on a minor league deal and was eventually traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates last spring in a deal that involved catcher Tyler Heineman.

With the Pirates he excelled in Triple-A and posted a .329/.412/.439 slash line over 49 games. Throughout his career he has possessed great bat to ball skills with an elevated walk rate. He does not excel in the speed or power department.

Defensively Vinny Capra is most frequently utilized as a second or third baseman, but he does have the ability to fill in at shortstop in addition to having corner outfield experience. He is joining the Brewers with one minor league option remaining and could figure into a shuttle mix with Owen Miller, Abraham Toro, Brice Turang, and Andruw Monasterio. It will be interesting to see what kind of role he can carve out with Milwaukee.
