The Milwaukee Brewers have named Carlos Rodriguez their organization’s minor league pitcher of the year each of the past two seasons. He was the lone recipient of this award in 2022 and he was a co-winner along with Robert Gasser in 2023. This year he is in the midst of his first full season in Triple-A and after a rough start he is now starting to look more like his old self.
Milwaukee Brewers sixth ranked prospect Carlos Rodriguez got off to a rough start this season.
After posting a 3.01 ERA in 2022 across two minor league levels and a 2.77 ERA in Double-A last year Carlos Rodriguez got his feet wet in Triple-A last year as he made just one start. This year he began in Triple-A and initially stumbled out of the gate. Through his first six starts in 2024 he ended up having an 8.13 ERA, 1.81 WHIP, and .270 batting average against.
Carlos Rodriguez has now strung together four consecutive quality starts.
Since the calendar has flipped to May Carlos Rodriguez has made five starts in which each of his last four have been quality starts. His ERA during the month of May was 3.03, WHIP 0.94, and batting average against .194. He has had games of nine, eight, six (two times), and four strikeouts without walking more than two batters in a game over this stretch.
Could the Milwaukee Brewers call Carlos Rodriguez up to the big leagues?
The Milwaukee Brewers could use starting pitching help, so it’s tempting to think that Carlos Rodriguez could get promoted to the big leagues. Top pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski is currently in Double-A, so it’s possible that Rodriguez gets an opportunity before him. However Milwaukee had Robert Gasser go through an entire Triple-A season last year before promoting him to the big leagues in 2024, so it’s more likely that Rodriguez follows that same path.
