The Milwaukee Brewers acquired southpaw Andrew Chafin at this year’s trade deadline. In return for most likely one year of his services (2024 club option at $7.25MM),the Brew Crew sent a controllable Peter Strzelecki to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Unfortunately this deal is currently not working in the Brewers favor as Chafin has a 8.71 ERA after 12 appearances and during his most recent outing he surrendered a game tying two run home run to New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton.
Milwaukee Brewers reliever Andrew Chafin discusses recent blunder against the New York Yankees.
After using Corbin Burnes for eight innings and Devin Williams, Abner Uribe, and Joel Payamps for an inning a piece manager Craig Counsell put Andrew Chafin on the mound in the 12th inning of Sundays game. The Brewers had just scored two runs in the top of the inning and were looking to secure another victory.
Unfortunately he hung a slider to Giancarlo Stanton and he did not miss it. His two run home run tied the game and the Yankees went on to win the game an inning later. Following this blunder he discussed with the media as to what went wrong.
“It was one hung slider to the worst guy you can hang a slider to. That’s what it boils down to. It was one of those things where I wasn’t trying to throw it anywhere near the damn zone. It’s just a terrible pitch — the only bad pitch of the inning.”
Through 12 games with the Brewers Andrew Chafin has given up at least one run in five of his appearances. He has not been performing well over the last six weeks and at this point Milwaukee has to be considering looking elsewhere for left-handed bullpen help.
