Devin Cooley was paired with Yaroslav Askarov in the Minors a season ago with the Milwaukee Admirals as the goaltending tandem. Cooley is 26 years old and has been in the Nashville Predators organization for the past couple of seasons. This summer, he will be a free agent and Cooley is looking for an NHL contract.
Milwaukee Admirals Goalie Devin Cooley Seeking NHL Contract
It will be interesting to see whether or not he will receive one. He played in 26 games during the regular season for the Milwaukee Admirals and had a 15-8-2 record with a .909 save percentage and a 2.93 GAA, along with zero shutouts. Cooley also appeared in four postseason games for Milwaukee with a 2-2 record, a .916 save percentage and a 2.29 GAA, along with zero shutouts.
Devin Cooley was much better this for the Milwaukee Admirals this season than he was in 2021-2022. There will be NHL teams that will need to sign a backup goalie in the offseason and that is what is best suited for him at the current moment. Cooley has never appeared in an NHL game in his hockey career and next year can finally be the year he cracks a roster.
The Nashville Predators organization is allagedly fielding calls on goalie Juuse Saros. If Saros were to get traded for a king’s ransom in the offseason, it is quite possible Nashville would sign him and have him on the NHL roster for the 2023-2024 season. The other current goalie on the Predators roster is Kevin Lahkonen.
This would be perfect for the Predators because it would signal a rebuild and also give more time for top goalie prospect Yaroslav Askarov to develop in the Minors. Nashville is not ready to win a Stanley Cup Title anytime soon. It would be interesting to see if general manager Barry Trotz will negotiate a long-term deal with Devin Cooley.
