In a podcast from Roundball found at @roundballpod, Michigan basketball player Hunter Dickinson let the world know his feelings about Wisconsin. Without giving any supporting reasons, Dickinson said, “Wisconsin, they’re just scumbags.”

Hunter Dickinson wasn’t done spewing his Badger hate, but he did not cite any reasoning behind his vitriol towards Bucky Nation: “Nothing I can say about Wisconsin is gonna fire up the matchup even more, so it already is what it is. The feeling could not be more mutual.”
The animosity between the two schools undoubtedly stems from the dustup that occurred at the end of their game in Madison on February 20, 2022. Wolverine coach Juwan Howard was not happy about how the final seconds played out; he was upset that UW coach Greg Gard called a timeout in an already-decided game.
During the handshake line after the final buzzer, Howard attempted to walk by Gard and avoid the customary and sportsmanlike acknowledgment between coaches. Gard touched Howard’s arm in an effort to stop him from breezing by, and that set off a melee that saw Howard punch UW assistant coach Joel Krabbenhoft. As a result, Howard was suspended by the Big 10 for the remainder of the regular season (five games) and fined $40,000.
However, Hunter Dickinson presented nothing regarding last year as reasoning for his hatred towards Wisconsin. No supporting arguments and no anecdotal evidence to prove his claim or defend his case were offered.
Well, one can only wonder if the comments from Hunter Dickinson will, in fact, “fire up” either side when they meet on Tuesday, February 14, at the Kohl Center or Sunday, February 26, in Ann Arbor. Get your popcorn ready.
