Milwaukee Brewers News: The Miami Marlins, who most recently have been in the news regarding a few of their trade targets, have elected to move on from a former Milwaukee Brewers outfielder. They designated him for assignment (DFA) while he was in the middle of a four year, $53 million contract. As a result they will eat $24.5 million in dead money.
Avisail Garcia has been DFA’d by the Miami Marlins.
In 2021 Avisail Garcia performed exceptionally well during a contract year with the Milwaukee Brewers. The outfielder cut sugar out of his diet, lost a lot of weight, and put together arguably the best season of his career as he belted 29 home runs and collected 86 RBI while slashing .262/.330/.490. After being DFA’d by the Marlins on Tuesday, June 4 he ended his Marlins career hitting .217/.260/.322/.582 with 13 home runs and 49 RBI in 153 games.
The Miami Marlins will be eating about $24.5 million with their decision to DFA outfielder Avisail Garcia.
He’s owed about $7.5 million this year.
He’s owed $12 million in 2025.
And he has a $5 million buyout.

Another former Milwaukee Brewers player received tough news this week.
In Seattle former Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Luis Urias was outrighted to Triple-A. The 27 year old was acquired by the Mariners during the off-season via trade. Milwaukee dealt him to the Boston Red Sox in July of 2023. With Seattle this year he has slashed a dismal .152/.264/.316. With nearly $3.4 million left of his $5.0 million 2024 salary he is unlikely to reject the minor league assignment because that would mean he would forfeit his remaining salary.
Speaking of former Milwaukee Brewers players struggling in 2024…
If we are glancing around the league there is another former Brewers outfielder who is struggling mightily this season. That player would be Hunter Renfroe. He is currently playing with the Kansas City Royals and has a .179/.256/.327 slash line. Kansas City is looking like a legit playoff contender so it’s possible that Renfroe could be the next former Brewers player to fall.
