Kurt Benkert is a national treasure. The NFL announced a new quarterback rule today thanks to the San Francisco 49ers. Teams will now be able to keep on a 3rd quarterback in uniform on gameday and that player will not take up a roster spot. In the 49ers-Eagles playoff game last year, Brock Purdy and his backup went down with injuries forcing the 49ers to have no quarterback basically. Now, teams can have another one in case of emergency. Kurt Benkert had a hilarious reaction on Twitter after the news was announced.

Kurt Benkert Reacts To New Quarterback Rule
Benkert posted the video of a wrestler rising from a coffin signaling that he is ready to be on a roster in 2023. He had a brief stint in the XFL and threw at the NFL Combine. Last year, he worked out for many teams but didn’t land on an NFL roster. Now with 32 additional spots open, Benkert could be in line to get an NFL third-string job this season. Many Packers fans have been rooting for Benkert, hoping that he would get a second chance on a roster and it looks like that may be the case.

Reunion With The Packers?
It seems unlikely. Sean Clifford will get the backup spot and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Danny Etling take the third spot. He has seen a lot of work with the practice squad and is familiar with the playbook and organization to some degree. It would not shock me if he ended up on another team though. The Jets are always in play because every former Packer might go play with Aaron Rodgers. Teams with young quarterbacks like the Panthers and Texans could also benefit from having a knowledgeable veteran in the room.
The new quarterback rule in the NFL benefits people like Kurt Benkert. Hopefully, he finds his way on an NFL roster soon.
