Through the Green Bay Packers’ recent history, they have not worried much about division rival Chicago Bears. Since the 2020 season the Packers have recorded eight consecutive victories against the neighboring rivals. Though the 2020 season was significant for the Chicago Bears particularly because of the NFL Draft.
They managed to find a future superstar in the draft at pick number 50 in the second round. After a productive four seasons in Chicago, just a week before free agency opens, the Bears officially re-signed Jaylon Johnson to a massive contract locking him down for the next four seasons.
Johnson’s Payday
After an impressive rookie contract, the Chicago Bears knew they wanted Jaylon Johnson to return to the squad. Originally they placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on Johnson to buy them time to negotiate. Though they did not need much time. as just a few days later they inked a deal making Jaylon Johnson a top-paid player in the premier position.

Sources: The #Bears and Pro Bowl CB Jaylon Johnson are finalizing a 4-year, $76M new contract that makes him one of the game’s highest paid at his position.

The superstar gets to stay where he was drafted long-term. Providing his best years against the rest of the NFC by way of the Chicago Bears.
Jaylon Johnson’s Impact On The NFC North
In Johnson’s 2023-24 NFL season, he showed what was to come for the Chicago Bears, solidifying himself as an elite force at the cornerback position. Racking up 4 picks through the season (5th among corners) and only allowing 25 receptions through 808 snaps, Jaylon Johnson put together a season Pro Football Focus has rated as a 90.8. That 90.8 was good for #1 among all corners.
In his six games against Green Bay, he’s yet to record an interception. Though with 15 total tackles and three pass deflections, he made his presence felt.
In only four games against the Minnesota Vikings, Johnson put together 11 solo tackles and an interception. That interception coming last season in a win that knocked the Vikings down to 6-6 on the season.
Against the reigning NFC North champion Detroit Lions, he has shown off a lot of his skillset. In seven games he’s tallied an impressive 20 solo tackles and an interception, once again that came last season. Late in the year, the Bears secondary gave the Lions one of their five losses on the season, holding Jared Goff to a measly 161-yard 1 touchdown 2 interception performance.
Jaylon Johnson is the type of player no team wants to see twice a year. Unfortunately for the NFC North, that is the reality they must face.
