The Green Bay Packers are reportedly scaring the rest of the league following the 2023 season. The Packers arguably overachieved during quarterback Jordan Love’s first season as the starting quarterback.
The Packers didn’t come close to winning the NFC North. However, they made a late-season push to make the NFC as the seventh seed. With the youngest team in the league, the Packers managed to upset the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round and were a few plays away from upsetting the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.
The Green Bay Packers had a chance to make the Super Bowl this year
We can only play the what-if game at this point. But if the Packers held on in the fourth quarter to defeat the 49ers, they’d be heading to Michigan this weekend to play the Detroit Lions for the right to play in February’s Super Bowl. The Packers, who beat the Lions in Detroit on Thanksgiving, would have had a great chance to win the NFC Championship Game.
The Packers are predicted to win Super Bowl LIX
While this Packers team wasn’t ready for a deep playoff run this year, other NFL teams are worried about Green Bay next year. According to Jeremy Fowler with ESPN, an AFC scout thinks the Packers will win Super Bowl LIX:
Yes, people are going there. Jordan Love proved a legitimate franchise quarterback, and the skill positions are loaded with first- and second-year players.
[Green Bay has] a young nucleus to build from — and the offensive line was playing really well,” a veteran AFC scout said. “The defense was up and down but finished the year much better. They’ve always had talent on that side of the ball. Can they be consistent?”
The Packers need to improve their defense this offseason
The Packers will have to assemble a roster that can beat Detroit first. While the Packers’ skilled positions on offense and Love show a lot of promise, there are other pieces of the roster the team needs to improve to win a Super Bowl.
The NFC is a relatively weak conference compared to the AFC. While Love can win playoff games against the Cowboys and 49ers, the Packers would need him to outduel quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, or Joe Burrow to win a Super Bowl.
That also means the defense would have to be better than this season’s crew was. The Packers might have to fire defensive coordinator Joe Barry to get better on that side of the ball. But they also need improvements at linebacker, safety, and the defensive interior this offseason.
