We still don’t know if Aaron Rodgers is the starting QB for the Green Bay Packers or the New York Jets. Early last week, the Green Bay Packers gave the Jets permission to meet with Rodgers in his home state California. Packers fans and the media saw this and concluded that the Packers are moving on from the 4x MVP. The meeting between Rodgers and the Jets came and went; now what?
Retirement?
At the end of the 2022 season, Aaron stated that he would have a decision made before the NFL’s Free Agency period. As of Monday, March 13th, teams are allowed to talk to players and negotiate contracts. With no decision made by AR12 yet, many speculate that Rodgers is legitimately thinking about retirement. They also suspect that Rodgers didn’t know Green Bay would move on from him and let him play out his contract. The Green and Gold are looking to start a new era in Green Bay without Rodgers.
Packers and Jets Held Hostage?
The New York Jets and Green Bay Packers are still waiting, even with other teams making moves in free agency. With Green Bay moving on from such a big contract, a lot is involved in trading Rodgers. Assuming the Packers and Jets have finalized the trade, we are still waiting for Rodgers to decide. The media speculated that Rodgers wants more guaranteed money and to recruit other players before he agrees to the trade. Both teams don’t know the salary cap situation, preventing them from being aggressive in free agency. With everyone waiting, we wish we could be a fly on the wall in Green Bay and New York right about now.
