The Green Bay Packers have a bright future. Jordan Love and the young Packers offense showed the league that they could compete with the best of the best. The team went 7-3 in their final 10 games which included wins over the Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, and Dallas Cowboys.
However, one 26-year-old may be forced into retirement after the 2023 season.
The Green Bay Packers May Seen One Of Their Young Players Hang Up His Cleats For Good
Freddie Boston of FanSided first brought up how Tight End Tyler Davis’ career could be coming to and end:
At some point, you really just need time on task to warrant even a 90-man roster spot from an NFL team. Tyler Davis has already bounced around other teams in the league before coming to the Packers, specifically having previous stints with the Jaguars and Colts before coming to Green Bay in 2021.
And although the former UConn and Georgia Tech tight end has been in the league since 2020 (former sixth-round pick), he hasn’t played since 2022, when he was active for all 17 games with the Packers. He was placed on season-ending IR last August and is set to hit free agency where his value is…what, exactly?
Even if Davis ends up getting a look somewhere else on a 90-man roster, he may have played his last snaps in the NFL.
What Has Tyler Davis’ Career Looked Like Thus Far?
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Davis with the 206th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Davis was waived by the Jaguars on August 31, 2021. Davis was signed to the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad on September 3, 2021.
Davis was signed by the Green Bay Packers on September 28, 2021 off the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. He re-signed with the Packers on March 15, 2023.
It was later reported that Davis tore his ACL during a preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals on August 11, 2023. On August 21, the Packers placed him on injured reserve, ending his season.
He has caught eight passes for 61 yards in his career. Davis seemed to finally find a groove in the Packers’ offense prior to his knee injury. It would be difficult to see his career cut short due to lack of opportunities.
