The Green Bay Packers have their quarterback room set for the 2023 NFL season. However, could they be in play for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance?
Packers Trade Rumors: Should Green Bay Pursue Trey Lance?
Well, Jordan Love is the starter currently, and Sean Clifford is set to be the backup quarterback and has played well this preseason. Alex McGough is currently the third quarterback on the depth chart, and the Packers appear to like him as well.
On Wednesday, the San Francisco 49ers listed Trey Lance as their third-string quarterback behind Sam Darnold and Brock Purdy. Lance is being rumored in potential trade talks. Ninersnoise.com believes that one of the four teams that Trey Lance should demand a trade to is the Green Bay Packers.
It appears as if Lance isn’t the future in San Francisco. Peter Panacy of ninersnoise.com said this about Trey Lance as a potential fit with the Packers organization:
“With the Aaron Rodgers era finally over, the Green Bay Packers now turn to quarterback Jordan Love in the hope of retaining the decades-old quarterbacking efforts that date back to Hall of Famer Brett Favre. That might be a stretch, though, even if fans are trying to buy into the Love hype.”
One of the things that could potentially comfort Lance is that his former college teammate, Christian Watson, is also on the Packers roster. Pannacy also said,
“Additionally, one of Lance’s preferred receiving weapons from his 2019 campaign at North Dakota State, wide receiver Christian Watson, is now poised to be the Packers’ No.1 pass-catching weapon.”
Trey Lance landing spots:
Weak situations IMO:
🏈Falcons: Is there a universe where Lance is eventually better than Ridder?
🏈Bills: I think Kyle Allen is pretty washed
🏈Bears: Lance could be better than PJ Walker
🏈Bengals: Burrow injury & Siemian isn’t good
🏈Packers:… https://t.co/kZV0tigwDy

The Green Bay Packers Should Not Trade for Trey Lance
That would be a good thing for him to be reunited with his college teammate. But why should the Packers even think about making a Trey Lance trade? The last thing this organization needs is for Jordan Love to struggle early on and then for head coach Matt LaFleur to be asked by the media when Lance will start.
They are better off with the quarterback room they have now and let some other franchise deal with him as their potential headache, who some label as an NFL bust. They need Jordan Love to go through growing pains rather than having him on a short leash.
