When the Green Bay Packers inked quarterback Jordan Love to a one-year extension deal worth $13.5 million in 2023, it was viewed by many as a value signing by the team. After all, instead of picking up their option on him worth $20.2 million, they managed to secure his services for at least the end of the 2024 season at a cheaper cost. But after playing like a star in just his first season as the franchise’s regular starter, it appears that Love deserves a bigger deal.
For NFL insider Dan Graziano of ESPN, Love already did the team a big favor by agreeing to that contract, so he also has to be reciprocated by the Green Bay Packers by giving him a much more lucrative one.
Love is also in line for an extension, and the Packers should reward him after he did them a massive favor with the terrible one-year extension he accepted last offseason. He’s now established as the starter in Green Bay, but he is extension eligible with only one year as a starter under his belt (as opposed to Lawrence’s three), so his deal should be interesting to watch.

The Packers can’t ignore the body of work Love put together in 2023. Love proved himself as a worthy successor to the legendary Aaron Rodgers. He’s remotely close to the level of play Rodgers displayed as a Packer, but Love managed to pass for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns on 64.2 percent completion rate while leading Green Bay to a playoff appearance many didn’t believe the team could pull off in Year 1 of the Post-Rodgers Era.
It will be interesting to follow the looming drama between Love and the Green Bay Packers, who may or may not be willing to pay the quarterback Joe Burrow type of money.

I have a problem with the idea that it was a massive favor. When the deal got done, it was a fair deal. The information we knew about Love was that he’s got a good arm, he knows the playbook and he’s situationally aware, but he’s terribly unproven and very much on the inaccurate side. The first half of the season looked just as much. The 2nd half, and the half we remember most and last, is that he’s more than serviceable and likely above average. But at the time of the deal, he could as easily have been starting in ’24 or bagging groceries at Kurt Warner’s old grocery store. Both sides accepted some risk.
